EVN supports UN Global Compact

In connection with the restructuring of its CSR organisation, in September 2005, EVN joined the UN Global Compact and thus committed itself to adherence to the global principles of an ethical business conduct.
The UN Global Compact represents a voluntary scheme for companies based on an initiative of the UNO and the former Secretary-General Kofi Annan. At present, the UN Global Compact has over 5,200 corporate participants (including 22 Austrian companies) from over 130 countries.
The initiative’s ten guiding principles derived from the Human Rights Convention of the United Nations, the declaration of the International Labour Organization (ILO) concerning fundamental working rights, the Rio Declaration regarding the environment and development and the UN’s anti-corruption declaration. The principles define the central demands of the international community represented by the United Nations with respect to sustainable corporate governance in the interests of all stakeholders.
The
ten principles contained in the UN Global Compact are based on a global consensus derived from the following declarations and conventions:
- The Universal Declaration of Human Rights adopted by the United Nations
- International Labour Organization (ILO) Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work
- The Rio Declaration on Environment and Development
- The United Nations Convention against Corruption
These principles define the primary demands of the international community represented in the United Nations with respect to sustainable corporate governance in the interests of all stakeholders.
EVN is proud to be one of the Austrian pioneers in the field of Corporate Social Responsibility. In 2002, EVN already became one of the first Austrian companies to publish a sustainability report.
Burkhard Hofer, President of the supervisory board:
“Within the framework of the internationalisation of the EVN Group, we regard adherence to the principles of the UN Global Compact as a further advance in the development of our sustainability strategy. For many years, EVN has openly recognised its responsibilities to society, its customers, owners, workforce and the environment.”
