The EVN Group is systematically growing together

The integration of the subsidiaries in Bulgaria and Macedonia is one of the biggest challenges the EVN Group faces. Human resources management is supporting this development with a variety of measures.

In January 2005, EVN acquired the two electricity distribution companies ERP Plovdiv and ERP Stara Zagora in South East Bulgaria, and a majority shareholding in the Macedonian electricity supplier ESM in April 2006. As a result, the total number of employees climbed from about 2,600 in 2003/04 to 9,973 people in 2005/06. 7,353 employees were working in Bulgaria and in Macedonia. Until 2007/08 the total number of employees declinded to 9,342.

With this significant growth, EVN has taken a decisive step forward in its further corporate development. At the same time, the company recognises its responsibility to people, the environment and society.

The enormous growth in the workforce of the EVN Group also attracted considerable international recognition during the period under review. In the annual rankings of companies with exceptional employment growth over the last three years, which are drawn up by Europe’s 500 in cooperation with KPMG and Microsoft, EVN was the best rated Austrian company in the 2005/06 financial year, placing 3rd among companies in 28 European countries.

The integration of the newly-acquired subsidiaries in Bulgaria and Macedonia is one of the main responsibilities of EVN’s human resources management. One focal point of its activities in the 2007/08 financial year was improving the qualifications of employees in the new subsidiaries. This represents only one among many measures carried out within the framework of the integration process.
