Biomass as a domestic alternative
EVN is Austria’s largest supplier of biomass based heat

Since 1993, EVN has been using biomass, a renewable fuel which on the whole is CO
2neutral.
In the meantime, two thirds of the municipal district heating provided by EVN is already derived from solid biomass (e.g. chippings and sawmill residues).
On balance, EVN operates 44 heating plants with biomass, which consumes about one million piled cubic metres of biomass annually. Biomass-fired plant capacity is continually being expanded, thus facilitating a steady reduction in CO
2emissions.
Generally speaking, we focus on developing professional solutions in cooperation with local agricultural partners or the wood processing industry. In this way, high quality wood chips and sawmill residues will be sensibly used. At the same time, a considerable volume of CO
2emission can be prevented.
