Electric Mobility
Electric Mobility is no future dream!
The truth is: The age of this alternative technology has already begun!
Whether E-Bike or E-Scooter, regarding single-track vehicles, the electric vehicles are already getting heavily into action. In order to force the use of electric vehicles in future, EVN is taking part in several projects and cooperations on electric mobility.
The Wachau is e-mobile
The tourist region of Wachau is leading by example. Under the motto "E-mobility in the Wachau", EVN has started a pilot project on
e-mobility together with the federal state government of Lower Austria, Raiffeisen Leasing and local partners. Since spring of 2010, the visitors can explore the landscape comfortably and environmentally friendly, without having to forego the comfort of a set of wheels.
EVN has set up its own charging station network consisting of five public stations - in Melk, Emmersdorf, Aggsbach village, Spitz and Krems - and built a total of 15 power stations with partners in tourism businesses - all of them free to use.
100 percent green electricity
All tourists and locals who rent electric bikes, electric scooters or Segways to experience the fanstastic landscape of this UNESCO world cultural heritage take advantage twice: The power for these stations is not only free, but it is also 100 percent green power!
Although the weather of summer 2010 did not allow optimal use, there is already planned an expansion of services for season 2011.
Natural gas
To actively contribute to the use of natural gas engines, EVN founded in early October 2008, along with Wien Energie and BEGAS EnergieAllianz the Erdgas Mobil GmbH which shall increase the circulation of natural gas as fuel.
Erdgas Mobil GmbH currently operates ten public CNG refueling stations as well as two non-public filling stations operating in the area supplied by EVN. Another public CNG refueling station will be completed in September 2010.
The use of natural gas as car fuel in place of gasoline or diesel leads to a strong reduction of CO2, respirable dust, nitrogen oxides and other pollutants, thus providing an active contribution to climate change and improving air quality.
Currently EVN uses 56 natural gas-powered vehicles - primarily for assembly and maintenance trips.
