CO2 certificates from JI/CDM projects

EVN is using the opportunities offered by the support of “Joint Implementation (JI)“ and “Clean Development Mechanism (CDM)“ projects to realize different CO2 reduction measures in other countries. This represents one of the strategic measures implemented by EVN in order to obtain the required number of CO2 certificates to operate its own plants. The implementation of such climate protection projects abroad provides EVN with emission credits for its own facilities.

Further potential to reduce CO2 emissions can also be expected with regards to EVN’s own future electricity and heat generation facilities operated by the EVN subsidiaries in Bulgaria and Macedonia.

A further contribution to climate protection will also be made in the coming years by CDM projects in Albania, where the possibilities for generating Certified Emission Reduction certificates from hydropower projects are currently being evaluated.

EVN’s participation in JI and CDM projects for wind parks and hydropower plants, e.g. in India, Egypt, China and Brazil has already been initiated by means of suitable climate protection funds.
