Measures for CO2 reduction
EVN is currently implementing a series of measures aimed at achieving a significant reduction in its CO2 emissions.
For example, construction of an upstream plant is planned at the Dürnrohr power station, which will reduce coal consumption by up to 20 percent through the use of biomass.
Moreover, the increased employment of waste heat from the power stations for heating purposes in neighbouring industrial companies and households is being promoted, for example derived from the district heat storage facility in Theiß, as well as the use of steam from the Dürnrohr power station for district heating in the city of Sankt Pölten. These measures led to improvements in the fuel utilisation ratio.
The new biomass-fired combined cycle heat and power plants in Mödling and Baden replace the old gas-fired boilers using natural gas as a fuel, and thus contribute to reducing CO2 emissions.
