Nature protection is a top priority at EVN
In the choice, design and construction of plant locations and power lines, we take into consideration:
- Fauna
- Flora
- Natural habitats (= living spaces of animals and plants)
The planning and realisation of construction projects are carried out with as much prudence as the operation of the facilities.
This means:
- Minimisation of resource consumption and land use
- Minimisation of any interference or damage to the landscape
- Minimisation of energy losses in the power generation and transmission processes
Specific measures:
- Replacement of overhead lines with underground cables, where this is technically and economically feasible
- Use of overhead line masts which harmonise with the landscape with regard to their height and colour
- Ongoing modernisation of the gas network
- Line laying by means of ploughing as an alternative to excavation
- Intensive recultivation measures
Specific projects:
- Environmental compatibility assessment for the 380 kV Etzersdorf-Theiß transmission line
- EU LIFE project to protect the great bustard
- Crossing of the Schwechatbach conservation area
Current information and projects concerning the sustainable protection of species and landscape can be found in the
EVN Sustainability Report 2007/08.
