An exemplary project in the field of hydro-ecology sector
Crossing of a conservation area with a gas pipeline
In 2004, EVN re-laid an existing 30-year-old high-pressure gas pipeline, which crosses a conservation area in the River Schwechat area near Tribuswinkel, in an exemplary manner, in accordance with all hydro-ecological criteria.

In consultation with the conservation authorities, EVN re-laid the 200 m underwater pipeline in the conduit of an existing high-voltage line, thus traversing both the river and the adjacent woodland area underground. The parallel running of the gas pipeline and high-voltage line minimised the impact on the landscape.
Since the original pipeline was laid, the Schwechat had changed its course due to the formation of meanders, and washing out caused by flooding had partially exposed the pipeline. As a consequence, it was necessary to restore the pipeline. The long-term solution will rule out the need for any future repair work or disturbances to the natural landscape.
