A showcase project for sustainability
The environmental compatibility assessment for the 380 kV Etzersdorf-Theiß transmission line
After experts confirmed the technical necessity of constructing a high voltage line with a length of 16.7 kilometres, the potential impact on the environment, people and animals was already evaluated during the project planning phase. Several line routes were analysed until a solution was found which best suited the interests of all those affected.

The basis for selecting the electricity transmission route was a comprehensive spatial analysis, which encompassed the needs of settlement and landscape protection. The aim was to ensure the greatest possible conservation of natural resources. Construction on the 380 kV transmission line began in 2007, and was completed on schedule in September 2008.
The power grid crosses the ecologically sensitive floodplain forest at one of its most narrow spots in order to minimize any potentially negative impact. The route was specified in such a manner as to ensure that it would be largely kept out of the view of the local population.
Construction was accompanied by forestry-ecological construction supervision, which continues to ensure the ongoing implementation of compensatory measures.
