EMAS
A concept with many advantages
Since 1993, the EU has offered EMAS (Environmental Management and Audit Scheme), a voluntary environmental management system within the unified market. This has emerged as an instrument for sustainable development in business and management, and is considered to be the standard for innovative and committed companies.
The core components of this system are ensuring a responsible use of natural resources, interaction with people and treatment of the environment, an increase in legal certainty and an improved business organization. Participants adhering to this scheme are required to publish an environmental declaration reporting about the company’s environmental impact, performance and goals.
The environmental declaration must be evaluated for accuracy by an independent environmental expert, who assesses the environmental management system, compliance with environmental policies and ecological regulations.
